IEM Global Challenge 2020 | Dec. 15th Matches Preview
Chaos Esports Club vs Team Vitality – IEM Global Challenge 2020 – Tuesday, December 15 – 12:00 CET
Chaos Esports Club enter this match on a five-game winning streak, which is mostly comprised of wins against second-tier North American teams such as Rebirth, Rugratz, Triumph, as well as Evil Geniuses. This is only an extension of Chaos’ solid run throughout the last three months, which saw them win 75% of their games so it’s fair to say the morale in the team is high, but it remains to be seen how much will that help them when faced with one of the best teams in the world.
Team Vitality have recently triumphed at the IEM Beijing-Haidian 2020 Europe where they won five out of six fixtures, including a 3-2 reverse sweep win in the grand finals against Natus Vincere after being 0-2 down. Prior to that, Vitality have also locked in a top-three finish at BLAST Premier Fall Series 2020 and second at the DreamHack Open Fall 2020 where they lost to Heroic (2-3) in the grand finals.
Even though there is a massive quality gap between these two sides, I don’t believe Chaos should be priced as such big underdogs. They have previously stunned some of the best teams in NA and considering Vitality will enter this match off a two-week break, there is definitely a chance Chaos can cause an upset. Bet on Chaos to keep it close!
Prediction: Chaos +1.50 Maps
Astralis vs Complexity – IEM Global Challenge 2020 – Tuesday, December 15 – 15:30 CET
Astralis and Complexity last met about two months ago at the ESL Pro League Season 12 Europe where we saw Astralis claim a very convincing 2-0 win with 16-8 on Nuke and 16-6 on Vertigo. Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen was the man to watch that day with 47 frags and 1.59 HLTV rating, whereas Benjamin “blameF” Bremer came out of the match with 32 frags and 1.04 HLTV rating and as the only player on Complexity with a positive rating.
Since Astralis parted ways with their young star Patrick “es3tag” Hansen and brought Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth back to the active lineup, they have not looked too sharp. While they’re still Astralis, they’re definitely not the same juggernaut they once were.
Complexity, meanwhile, seem like a team that is capable of much more than what they are showing. Across the last couple of months, Complexity have put together a somewhat disappointing run which includes a fifth-eighth finish at the BLAST Premier Fall 2020 Showdown, third-fourth at IEM Beijing-Haidian 2020 Europe and seventh-ninth at the BLAST Premier Fall Series 2020. It’s worth noting, however, that some of the Complexity’s losses very very close, so perhaps they deserve some slack for their lack of success.
Both sides are in a somewhat shaky form which leads us to believe this match will be a complete coin-toss. In other words, both teams have the tools to win – the only question here is which roster will show up on the day. Bet on Complexity to win!
Prediction: Complexity to win
Natus Vincere vs FURIA – IEM Global Challenge 2020 – Tuesday, December 15 – 19:00 CET
Natus Vincere have recently claimed a silver medal from the IEM Beijing-Haidian 2020 Europe where they lost only to Complexity in the group stage and against Team Vitality in the grand finals. besides that, NaVi also finished fourth-sixth at the BLAST Premier Fall Series 2020 and fourth at the IEM New York 2020 CIS where they lost against the likes of Virtus.pro, forZe and Spirit.
NaVi are clearly not enjoying the online era of CS, but the complete opposite holds true for FURIA. The Brazillian side have looked quite impressive throughout most of the year and have already won ESL Pro League Season 12 North America, IEM New York 2020 North America and DreamHack Open Summer 2020 North America.
After their trip to EU to play at the BLAST Premier Fall Series 2020 , FURIA struggled to live up to the hype and lost both of their matches against G2 and MIBR, however, they quickly picked themselves up and won the remaining bouts against Isurus, Virtus.pro, Team Liquid, North and G2. They are now holding a very solid 79.2% win rate across the last three months.
Despite FURIA’s struggles a couple of weeks ago, they are now playing much better and look more than ready to take down Natus Vincere. Bet on FURIA to win!
Prediction: FURIA to win
