China Dota2 Pro Cup Season 2: Group Stage Match Analysis
Royal Never Give Up Vs PSG.LGD – Saturday, November 14 at 17:00 CST
On paper, this is a clash of two Chinese Dota2 titans, but in reality, there is a massive gap between the two. Royal Never Give Up were once a force to be reckoned with both domestically and on the international stage, and while they still carry that renown, the team’s performances as of late were rather lackluster.
After RNG won the ESL One Los Angeles 2020 – Online: China in April, they started to slump and managed only a third-place finish at China Dota2 Professional League Season 2 and OGA Dota PIT S2: China in March and July, respectively.
As time went on, RNG continued to disappoint with a seventh-eighth place finish at DPL-CDA Professional League Season 2, and two fifth-sixth finish at China Dota2 Pro Cup Season 1 and OGA Dota PIT S3: China in October.
Most recently, RNG attended the CDA-FDC Professional Championship, where they were nothing short of disappointing. Although they have pocketed another bronze medal, they were not at the level of the two finalists in Elephant.4AM and PSG.LGD, who both swept RNG (2-0) in the semi-finals.
PSG.LGD, meanwhile, are in great form and are entering this bout with an impressive 18-2 record since the start of September. Across the last four months, PSG.LGD met with RNG three times and won all three bouts – once with 2-1 and twice with a clean sweep.
With those wins, PSG.LGD improved their head-to-head record with RNG to 17-6 and 11-5 in 2020 alone. It’s worth noting that RNG has won 14 out of 37 maps played with PSG.LGD, but at a 37.84% win rate, even that record does not inspire much confidence.
The question here is not so much whether PSG.LGD can win, but rather can they secure a clean sweep. PSG.LGD swept RNG in three out of the last five meetings, including their most recent clash at the CDA-FDC Pro Championship. Still, the odds offered on RNG to win one map are way too high, and while their form is not exceptional, RNG still has the tools to make this bout interesting.
Prediction: Royal Never Give Up +1.5 maps
