With the 2020 NBA draft quickly approaching its Nov. 18 date, NBA rumors are heating up in a big way. With that said and a new week on hand, let’s find out which players could be on the move either in free agency or via trades and which NBA coaches could land with the Rockets, Pelicans or Pacers. Let’s get right to it so you can start planning your bets against their NBA odds for the next season.
NBA Rumors & Betting News Heating Up As 2020 Draft Approaches
CP3 – To Los Angeles Lakers
This is a new rumor that has the Lakers acquiring future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul via a trade. While this deal sounds good on paper and would unite friends, LeBron James and CP3, the Lakers almost certainly don’t have what Oklahoma City Thunder GM Sam Presti would want back in return. – namely, some young players with huge upside and a high draft pick or two. Stay tuned NBA basketball lovers and betting buffs, but I don’t see this one happening unless a third team gets involved to sweeten the pot for Oklahoma City.
T-Wolves and Suns Swap
In this proposed deal, the Phoenix Suns would receive the No. 1 pick in the draft plus forward James Johnson while Minnesota gets the No. 10 pick, small forward Kelly Oubre Jr. And a young player with big upside in combo guard Ty Jerome. This one could happen, but I think Minnesota will hold out for an even better deal – or use the top overall pick to nab Georgia shooting guard Anthony Edwards.
Golden State Warriors
In this proposed mega-deal, Philadelphia would ship all-star center Joel Embiid to Golden State for veteran small forward Andrew Wiggins and No. 2 overall pick. The Dubs would put the gifted, but overly criticized Embiid on the floor with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green while Philly would get a good scorer in Wiggins while using the No. 2 pick on either point guard LaMelo Ball or big man James Wiseman. Stay tuned, this deal could happen – although I don’t think Doc Rivers is in a big rush to part ways with Embiid.
There’s another potential trade that Golden State could make and that involves the Warriors shipping off Wiggins and No. 2 pick for defensive-minded veteran center Rudy Goebert. Goebert would provide an instant upgrade for Golden State’s defense while giving the Dubs a big-time rebounder. Ultimately, the Warriors will be holding out for the best deal possible.
With veteran center Dwight Howard entering free agency, there are rumors that say the Warriors would love to land the still-effective veteran center. Yes, the Lakers will want to bring Howard back, but he averaged a career-low 18.9 minutes per game this past season and he may want to play a lot more moving forward since he showed that he can still ball in short stretches. The right amount of money and some guaranteed playing time of at least 25 minutes per game could get Howard out of L.A. and onto the Warriors roster for next season.
Three-Team Deal In The Works?
In this rumored three-team deal, a Pacers team that doesn’t have a first round pick, would move up to No. 2, where they could take either Ball or Edwards, particularly with rumors that Victor Oladipo wants out. The Warriors would get talented, but often underachieving big man Myles Turner while acquiring Atlanta’s No. 6 pick. The Hawks would walk away with Wiggins and a 2021 first round pick, which would be top-three protected. This deal makes a lot of sense for everyone involved, which is exactly why it may not happen!
Rumors say that veteran small forward Danilo Galinari wants to join Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat in South Beach. Galinari averaged 18.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game this past season while draining 40.5 percent of his three-point shot attempts. The Heat could use a player of his caliber if they want to make consecutive runs at winning the Eastern Conference.
New York State of Mind
There’s a new rumor saying that the Knicks would love to pair Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony together in the Big Apple. While both players were once represented by agent Leon Rose, I can’t believe Melo would be up for a return to his hometown team after the way the Knicks mistreated him during his previous stop there, nor can I see CP3 going to a team that clearly would not be a contender, even if both players did join the beleaguered franchise. This rumor stinks and I just don’t see it happening at all.
Knicks Want Rondo?
This rumor sounds as silly as it looks on the surface. Rondo is going to be a free agent this offseason and there’s no way and no amount of money that he would take to go lead the lowly Knicks to nowhere. New York may crave Rondo’s abilities, but I can say with near certainty, that Rondo isn’t giving the Knicks a New York minute of his free agent thought process.
According to recent reports, the Houston Rockets have narrowed their head coaching job to three candidates in Jeff Van Gundy, Stephen Silas, and John Lucas. Van Gundy met with Rockets brass last week. Muddying the waters for the Rockets is the fact that GM Daryl Morey just stepped down from his position.
In Indiana, the Pacers are reportedly set on a trio of candidates that includes Pelicans assistant Chris Finch, former Grizzlies and Kings coach Dave Joerger and former superstar point guard Chauncey Billups. Mike D’Antoni is also rumored to be in the running, although he’s also being linked as an assistant to Tyron Lue with the Clippers.
For New Orleans, recent rumors have former Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy, former Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson, former 76ers head coach Brett Brown all in the running for the job. There’s been no clear-cut favorite at this point with the Pacers keeping everything low-key. Stay tuned here as anything could quite literally happen in Indy!
