There are still 7 races to be run in this Formula 1 season, and while it has been following a very familiar script to this point, might we yet see a twist in the tale? One driver is going to need to step up in the final weeks of the season and find a way to run down Lewis Hamilton. If that does not happen, the Brit will simply cruise to yet another World Championship. We did see the gap at the top of the driver standings shrink a little last week, with Valtteri Bottas taking the checkered flag in Russia. If he can put on a similar performance in Germany this coming weekend, we might yet get a championship battle to savor. It is the usual cast of characters in as the favorites this weekend, so let’s take a look, along with their Formula 1 odds.
German F1 Aramco Grosser Preis Der Eifel 2020
Lewis Hamilton (-225)
We have all become very accustomed to seeing Lewis Hamilton sitting at the top of the driver standings, but will we begin to see him look over his shoulder if he does not come up with the win this weekend? Hamilton currently has a 44-point lead at the top, and while that is certainly not insurmountable by any stretch of the imagination, you have to believe that he will win a few more races before this season is over. He does already have 6 wins this season and has only missed landing on the podium twice in 10 races. He won in Germany in 2019, but only managed to finish 9th there last season.
Valtteri Bottas (+350)
Bottas finished second in the driver standings last season, and while you would expect that to be where he lands again this season, you cannot argue that his win in Russia last weekend brought the title race to life a little. That said, it will end up meaning very little if he cannot push on from here and build some more momentum. The win in Russia was the second of the season for Bottas, who also has 6 other podium finishes this season. He was forced to retire in the German Grand Prix last season, but he did finish second behind Hamilton the year before that.
Max Verstappen (+400)
This has been a very frustrating season for Verstappen, who might well be hot on the heels of Hamilton were it not for the fact that he has now been forced to retire in 3 of the 10 races run this season. Outside of those instances, he has been on the podium in every other race, which included a win at the 70th Anniversary race at Silverstone. Verstappen won in Germany last season, so he might well be a good bet at a very good price, assuming he can actually finish this race.
Sergio Perez (+5000)
Okay, the chances of Perez winning this race are more than just a little slim, but we should note that he is coming off his best performance of the season, finishing 4th in Russia last weekend. The reality is that there is a huge gap between the top 3 and the rest of the pack in Formula 1, hence the wild gap in odds between these 4 drivers.
