The French Open is underway. Most of the favorites on both the women’s and men’s side have performed well enough to get into at least the third round. Check out Tennis odds on who will take the French Open along with updates for each betting choice so you can keep making your bets against their French Open odds.
COVID-19 Tennis Update – September 30th Edition
2020 French Open
- When: Sep. 21 – Oct. 11
- Where: Roland-Garros, Paris, France
French Open Championship Winner Odds
- Rafael Nadal +100
- Dominic Thiem +300
- Novak Djokovic +300
- Stefanos Tsitsipas +3300
- Daniil Medvedev
- Alexander Zverev +4000
Rafael Nadal – Rafa has blitzed his way to the third round. No apparent rust as the chalk has yet to lose a set in wins over Egor Garisimov and Mackenzie McDonald.
Dominic Thiem – Like Rafa, Dominic has made it to the third round. Unlike Rafa, Thiem struggled in his second match versus Jack Sock, winning 6-1, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6). Will the extra set hurt Thiem moving forward?
Novak Djokovic – The co-second choice put a 6-0, 6-2, 6-3 beating onto first round opponent Mikael Ymer. Djoker faces Ricardo Birankis on Oct. 1.
Stefanos Tisitsipas – Tsitsipas could have a tough time against Pablo Cuevas in the second-round. Stefanos required 5 sets to beat Jaume Munar. If he’s tired, Cuevas will have an advantage.
Daniil Medvedev – Martin Fuscovics knocked out the U.S. Open semifinalist 4-6, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 1-6. Medvedev didn’t seem to have it at any point during the match. Fuscovics is a good tennis player, but if Daniil were on his game, he would have beaten Martin in straight sets.
Alexander Zverev – Alexander got by Dennis Novak. At the time of this writing, he was in a dogfight with Pierre Hughes-Herbert, though. Zverev often plays in multiple sets during tournaments. He made the U.S. Open Finals after playing a combined 15 sets in the first three rounds. If he beats Hughes-Herbert, Alexander remains a contender.
French Open Championship Women’s Odds
- Simona Halep +270
- Garbine Muguruza +800
- Ashleigh Barty
- Bianca Vanessa Andreescu
- Kiki Bertens +1400
- Serena Williams
- Victoria Azarenka
- Elina Svitolina +1700
Simona Halep – The chalk has played like it. Simona hasn’t lost a set in her two French Open matches.
Garbine Muguruza – Muguruza handled Tamara Zidansek in her first match, but she lost a set. Krystina Pliskova could be tougher, so, beware backing Muguruza unless you really believe she can win.
Ashleigh Barty – Ashleigh decided to skip the French Open due to concerns about the coronavirus. Nine days ago, Barty played in a golf tournament that she won.
Bianca Vanessa Andreescu – Like Barty, Andreescu decided to skip the French Open. Andreescu won’t play the rest of this year. It makes sense because Bianca has had injury problems, non-coronavirus related, all year long.
Kiki Bertens – Bertens has had to fight in her first two matches. Kiki got through with wins, though. She faces Katarina Siniakova on Oct. 2.
Serena Williams – Serena injured her Achilles during a second round match versus Tsvetana Pironkova. She had to retire and is out of the French Open.
Victoria Azarenka – After playing great in a 6-1, 6-2 first round victory against Danka Kovinic, Azarenka bombed in the second-round. She fell to Ana Karolina Schmiedlova 2-6, 2-6.
Elina Svitolina – Elina looks primed for a deep French Open run. Heading into the fourth round, she’s lost just a single set. Keep an eye on Svitolina in her match against Ekaterina Alexandrova on Oct. 2.
Rafa and Djoker on a French Open collision course, Halep looking strong but faces tough player in third round
No real surprises on the men’s side. Dominic Thiem may not beat Novak Djokovic later on in the tournament. Rafael Nadal looks like a lock on the bottom of the bracket.
Simona Halep has looked unbeatable so far. Halep plays against Amanda Anisimova the 19-year-old U.S. sensation, on Oct. 2, though. Make sure to handicap that match before dumping on Simona.
Like Halep, Anisimova hasn’t lost a match yet during the French Open. She could give Simona a run for her money.
Have a great rest of your week and enjoy the French Open!
