With the 2020 WNBA regular season approximately two weeks – and six games – away from the completion of its shortened 22-game schedule and teams in both conferences jockeying for playoff position, it’s time to take a look at the top games on the WNBA schedule this coming week so you can make your bets against their WNBA odds.
WNBA Top Games of the Week to Bet On (September 1st – 6th)
Can the Seattle Storm maintain their narrow lead atop the WNBA standings? Can the streaking Las Vegas Aces overtake the Storm for first place as they sit a half-game back entering the new week? Could either, the Los Angeles Sparks or Minnesota Lynx come from one and two games backs respectively to finish above either of the aforementioned league leaders?
Phoenix Mercury at Las Vegas Aces
- When: Tuesday, September 1 at 10:00 PM ET
Phoenix (9-7) is sitting in sixth place in the WNBA standings, but the Mercury hit the new week riding a three-game winning streak that includes an 83-79 win over Minnesota on Sunday. Skylar Diggins-Smith scored a team-high 25 points and Diana Taurasi added 23 points and 12 rebounds in the win. Las Vegas (12-3) is in second place in the standings and hit the new week riding a four-game winning streak that includes an 80-63 win over New York on Saturday. A’Ja Wilson scored a game-high 20 points and four other players reached double digits in scoring in the win. Vegas leads the league in scoring (87.9 ppg) while ranking third in fewest points allowed (79.0 ppg). The Aces clinched a playoff berth with their win.

Washington Mystics at Seattle Storm

The Mystics come into the new week riding a four-game losing streak that includes a 76-63 loss to Connecticut on Sunday. Seattle (13-3) sits atop the WNBA standings and has gone 8-2 over their last 10 games. The Storm hit the new week having won two straight including an 88-74 win over Chicago on Saturday as Breanna Stewart had 21 points and eight rebounds and Natasha Howard added 17 points and 15 rebounds in the win. Seattle ranks third in scoring (86.8 ppg) and leads the league in fewest points allowed (74.4 ppg).

Atlanta Dream at New York Liberty

The Dream entered the new week having lost two straight including a hard-fought 84-79 loss against Los Angeles on Sunday. Atlanta allows a league-high 90.3 points per game defensively. New York is in last place in the standings and has gone 2-8 over their last 10 games. The Liberty have lost two straight including an 80-63 loss against Las Vegas on Saturday. New York is averaging a league-low 74.1 points per game.

The Lynx picked up a commanding 96-78 win over Los Angeles on Monday night to snap the Sparks’ nine-game winning streak as MVP candidate Napheesa Collier had 25 points, nine rebounds and five assists and rookie Crystal Dangerfield added 21 points. Dallas (6-10) is sitting in the eighth and final spot for a playoff berth, but has dropped six of their last 10 games. The Wings snapped a two-game skid by getting past Indiana 82-78 on Saturday as league-leading scorer Arike Ogunbowale finished with 28 points and Satou Sabally added 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Connecticut Sun at Indiana Fever

The Sun have alternated wins and losses over their last seven games, but come into this affair off a 76-53 win over Washington on Sunday as DeWanna Bonner had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Alyssa Thomas added 16 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Indiana (5-11) is in ninth place in the standings, one game behind Dallas in the race for the final playoff berth. Unfortunately, the Fever have dropped seven of their last 10 games and four straight, including an embarrassing 100-77 loss against Chicago on Monday night. Indiana gave up a WNBA-record 18 assists to Chicago’s Courtney Vandersloot in the loss.

Sky cruised to an easy 100-77 smackdown win over Indiana on Monday night as Allie Quigley scored a team-high 19 points while her wife, Courtney Vandersloot dished out a league-record 18 assists while adding 13 points. Los Angeles (12-4) is in third place in the WNBA standings, but the Sparks had their nine-game winning streak snapped in their 96-78 loss to Minnesota on Monday night as Candace Parker was limited to eight points and nine rebounds and Nneka Ogwumike did not play due to back soreness.
