There are only 4 races left on the season, and just 3 race weekends on the calendar, as there will be a couple of races going this weekend. The Bommarito Automotive Group Race 1 will go on Saturday, while Race 2 will be on Sunday. What that means is that there is very little time to make an impact on the standings. The drivers currently occupying the top 3 are likely to be the ones duking it out for top spot on the final race day. Let’s take a look at those guys and their history in this race so you can set down your bets against their IndyCar odds.

IndyCar Bommarito Automotive Group Betting Analysis

Generally speaking, the IndyCar season is usually 17 races long, but given how things have gone in 2020, this season will only deliver 12 races. There are some who would argue that whoever wins the driver championship this year should have an asterisk next to their name, with the thought being that this isn’t a legitimate season. Those people would be wrong, though, as winning this season, with doubleheader races and all the distractions off the track, is perhaps tougher than it has ever been.

Scott Dixon

This has the potential to be a huge weekend for Dixon, as he can make a move that would get him very close to clinching his 6th championship. He set the tone early in the season, coming out and winning each of the first 3 races. While Dixon hasn’t won since then, he has been in the top 5 in 3 straight races, 2 of which were 2nd place finishes. The latest of those came last week at the Indianapolis 500, with the good news there being that the two men he is ahead of in the standings finished behind him. In his last 3 races at Gateway Motorsports Park, where these races will be run, Dixon has failed to win. Realistically, though, with an 84-point lead in the driver standings, landing on the podium in one of these races might well be enough to clinch the title.

Josef Newgarden

Given the standings, it would be easy to make an argument that Newgarden is the only driver with a legitimate shot, albeit a slim one, of running down Scott Dixon in the final few weeks of the season. While he has been consistent enough this year, especially in the last 3 races, where he has placed top 5 each time, it is tough to make up ground when you aren’t winning. Newgarden has just 1 win on the season and 2 podium finishes overall. He will need to do a whole lot better than that if he wants to make these final weeks interesting. He did have a win at this track back in 2017, so perhaps he has a shot at one of the races.

Pato O’Ward

The future looks very bright indeed for the 21-year old Mexican driver, as he is now up to 3rd in the driver standings, albeit well off the pace being set at the top by Dixon. This is just his first full season in IndyCar, so landing in the top 4 would be a fabulous achievement. It’s tough to say what to expect from him this weekend, though, as he has zero experience at this track. He has one podium finish under his belt this season.
