2020 NFL Regular Season MVP Odds
- Christian McCaffrey +3500
- Gardner Minshew III +10000
Top Pick: Patrick Mahomes +400
The Super Bowl MVP is the best quarterback in the NFL. That’s not the only reason to choose Mahomes over Russell or Lamar. The other reason, the most important reason, is Patrick has more weapons than either of those quarterbacks.
Mahomes can throw it to a bevy of receivers, including tight-end Travis Kelce. LSU rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire caught passes in the Tigers’ Saints’ inspired offense last season. If Edwards-Helaire turns out to be the next Alvin Kamara, Mahomes’ stats will go through the roof.
The chalk is the top pick to win his second Most Valuable Player Award in the past 3 seasons.
Top More than +1000 Pick: Kyler Murray +1400
Check out Murray’s stats from last season: 20 touchdown passes, 3,722 yards, 64.4% completion percentage, a 5.4 per yard carry average, 544 rushing yards, and 4 rushing touchdowns.
Sure, Murray threw 12 picks, but so what? 12 isn’t bad for a rookie quarterback. So, yes, Murray has talent. This season, he also gets to throw the pigskin to DeAndre Hopkins, one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.
Biggest Underlay: Carson Wentz +1800
Wentz is a good quarterback, no doubt, but the Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson could pull Wentz in certain situations to get Jalen Hurts on the field. That could dig into Wentz’s stats.
Also, Philadelphia could be at 4-4 before the Week 9 bye. MVP awards go to playoff teams, and it could be a struggle for the Eagles to make the playoffs.
Biggest Overlay: Matthew Stafford +3500
Matthew Stafford finally has a couple of things he’s lacked for almost his entire career. The first is a solid rushing attack. Both Kerryon Johnson and D’Andre Swift are talented and tough.
The second are quality tight-ends. Eric Ebron was supposed to be that guy. He didn’t pan out. Last year’s top draft pick, T.J. Hockenson, will share TE duties with veteran Jesse James. The defense got a huge makeover during the offseason, which will help Stafford and the offense.
Best Massive Underdog with a Shot: Derek Carr +8000
Carr probably won’t win the NFL MVP. Then again, Rich Gannon won the award in 2002. Gannon was a journeyman quarterback until Jon Gruden, Carr’s coach, helped him dominate.
Who knows? If Gruden performs his magic with Derek Carr, he could take the MVP at massive odds.
